Decisions

The MRT and the RRT are required to publish decisions that are considered to be of 'particular interest'. The Tribunals aim to publish a broad cross section of decisions representing up to 20% of decisions made.

The requirement to publish decisions is subject to certain restrictions. The identity of the applicant and other persons cannot be disclosed when publishing RRT decisions, and a Member may decide that publication of an MRT decision is to be restricted on public interest grounds. Where a relevant restriction applies, the decision is edited so as not to contain the information which cannot be published (provided that the decision can be edited in a way where the decision remains publishable).

Published decisions can be found at the Australasian Legal Information Institute (AustLII) website:

The MRT-RRT Monthly Decisions Bulletin is produced every 4 weeks. It summarises a selection of recently published Tribunal decisions. Selected summaries of High Court, Federal Court and Federal Magistrates Court judgments are also included.

Statistics on the Tribunals' cases are updated monthly.
